The Store Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, compliance, and daily operation of an assigned Chalice dispensary. This position owns the store's customer experience, team development, sales execution, labor management, inventory integrity, cash controls, safety, security, and adherence to applicable OLCC, METRC, and company requirements. The Store Manager translates retail objectives into clear priorities, develops accountable and knowledgeable teams, and maintains a warm, professional, and service-focused cannabis retail environment.
This role serves as the primary on-site leader and is expected to exercise sound judgment, communicate proactively, and elevate material operational, employee-relations, financial, or compliance matters to Retail Operations leadership and Human Resources as appropriate.
The Store Manager is expected to maintain proficiency in and perform all essential duties assigned to the Product Specialist, Shift Lead, and Assistant Store Manager roles, in addition to the responsibilities below.
- Lead all aspects of daily dispensary operations and establish clear expectations for customer service, sales execution, compliance, productivity, and professional conduct.
- Build and sustain a warm, customer-first culture that emphasizes cannabis education, responsible sales, product knowledge, and consistent Chalice service standards.
- Recruit, interview, select, onboard, train, coach, and retain qualified store employees in partnership with Human Resources and Retail Operations leadership.
- Set performance expectations, conduct regular check-ins and evaluations, provide documented coaching, and address performance or conduct concerns consistently and promptly.
- Develop Assistant Store Managers, Shift Leads, and high-potential employees through delegated ownership, stretch assignments, product education, and succession planning.
- Create and manage employee schedules, labor deployment, timekeeping review, attendance follow-up, and break coverage in alignment with sales trends, staffing plans, and applicable requirements.
- Monitor store sales, traffic, conversion, average transaction, product mix, discounts, and other performance indicators; develop and execute action plans to improve results.
- Lead store promotions, merchandising initiatives, customer-engagement efforts, and product-education priorities while monitoring execution and results.
- Maintain full working knowledge of company policies, standard operating procedures, OLCC regulations, METRC requirements, purchase limits, responsible-sales practices, and security protocols.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of METRC activity, product receiving, transfers, intake, adjustments, waste documentation, inventory counts, discrepancy research, and required compliance records.
- Own store inventory integrity through routine cycle counts, weekly audits, menu accuracy, product rotation, aging review, loss-prevention controls, and timely investigation of variances.
- Manage product ordering and inventory planning with Wholesale Purchasing and Retail Operations, balancing customer demand, sales trends, product availability, assortment standards, and inventory targets.
- Review daily point-of-sale activity, register counts, cash reconciliations, deposits, discounts, voids, returns, and transaction exceptions; investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain effective controls over keys, alarm access, restricted areas, regulated inventory, cash, deposits, and store opening and closing procedures.
- Ensure the dispensary remains clean, organized, properly merchandised, safe, secure, and audit-ready across customer-facing, employee-only, and restricted-access areas.
- Respond to customer concerns and operational disruptions with professionalism; document and elevate significant complaints, safety events, security incidents, suspected diversion, or compliance concerns.
- Partner with Human Resources on employee relations, accommodations, investigations, corrective action, leave coordination, and other sensitive personnel matters.
- Maintain accurate store records and provide timely reporting on sales, labor, inventory, compliance, staffing, employee performance, incidents, and operational risks.
