Compensation: $22.00 to $24.00 per hour
Position SummaryThe Grower is responsible for leading the propagation and cultivation of plants within a controlled environment to achieve production goals and maintain the highest quality standards. This role involves a wide range of horticultural activities, including irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease management, and substrate testing. The Grower works closely with the Department Head, Production Manager, and team members to optimize plant growth, implement innovative practices, and ensure compliance with safety and operational protocols.
Additionally, the Grower plays a key role in research trials, technology integration, and fostering a collaborative, team‑oriented work environment.
- Oversee daily plant care in the greenhouse environment to ensure efficient and effective workflows.
- Manage irrigation, fertilization, transplanting, substrate testing, winterization, and greenhouse maintenance.
- Organize and prioritize tasks based on weather conditions, chemical applications, or production activities.
- Implement and follow various irrigation and horticultural protocols to optimize plant health.
- Monitor and understand ideal environments for seedlings, liners, and plants.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions to the safety committee or manager.
- Report equipment issues to the Department Head or maintenance department.
- Plan, organize, and evaluate research trials, collaborating with other growers to meet specific care requirements.
- Participate in department technology, including computers and robotics.
- Foster teamwork by collaborating with coworkers and contributing to a positive work environment.
- Monitor and control misting of each variety during the propagation process.
- Maintain accurate daily records for greenhouse operations and share crop notes and updates with coworkers to ensure consistent care.
- Conduct regular substrate and media tests to ensure optimal growth conditions.
- Scout greenhouses for pests and diseases, document findings, and recommend control measures in line with USDA guidelines.
- Use computer systems to maintain notes, generate tags, and support research activities.
- Organize and maintain tools, parts, and materials inventory.
- Perform other tasks as assigned throughout the year to support production and facility needs.
- Basic understanding of horticulture through formal education or a combination of experience and education.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and utilize technology, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Willingness to learn, work collaboratively, and communicate effectively.
- Strong organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
- Flexibility to work weekends, extended hours, and holidays as needed.
- Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets company insurability standards.
- Ability to meet physical demands, including sitting or walking for long periods, occasional lifting, and working in varying weather conditions.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. The employee must regularly lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to weather conditions such as humidity, heat, cold, rain, and wind. Personal protective equipment may be required, and the role may involve exposure to dust, fertilizers, pesticides, and noise.
