Telecommunications Utility Worker IIUnder general supervision, perform a variety of skilled manual tasks to maintain the infrastructure within the City’s telecommunications utility. Operate, maintain, and repair various public works equipment. May provide training and orientation to volunteers, students, seasonal and newly assigned personnel on site policies and practices. This position may be underfilled without advertising as Telecommunications Utility Worker I, subject to licenses and qualifications.
DistinguishingCharacteristics
This is the journey-level classification that performs the full range of duties required to ensure that City infrastructure, systems, and use of tools and equipment to which assigned are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for public use. This position is distinguished from the Telecommunications Utility Worker III in that the latter is capable of performing more complex duties assigned to the division.
It is further distinguished from the Telecommunications Worker I classification by the requirement to hold a commercial driver license (CDL) and other assignment-specific certifications.
This description covers the most significant essential and auxiliary duties performed by the position, but does not include other occasional work, which may be similar, related to, or a logical assignment for the position.
Essential DutiesProvide assistance to other staff as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge ofGeneral knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of vehicles, tools and equipment, practices, methods, hazards and safety precautions used in the maintenance and repair of City infrastructure. Knowledge of the installation of outside/inside plant telecommunications and fiber optic cable.
Ability toInteract effectively with the public and employees. Operate all required vehicles and equipment, such as forklift tractor/loader, brush chipper tractor/mower, truck with or without trailer; use a variety portable power tools; and use a variety of hand tools.
