Position Summary

The Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered trucks and heavy equipment across various job sites nationwide. This role requires extensive travel (approximately 50%) and the ability to work independently in field environments. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in diesel systems, safety-focused, and adaptable to changing job site conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy-duty diesel trucks and related equipment in both shop and field environments
  • Travel to job sites nationwide to provide on-site maintenance and emergency repair services
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brake systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical components
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical issues and recommend solutions
  • Complete preventative maintenance services to ensure equipment reliability and longevity
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimize downtime and support operational efficiency
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts usage documentation
  • Communicate effectively with operations teams, drivers, and supervisors regarding repair status and equipment needs
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and OSHA regulations
  • Maintain service vehicle, tools, and equipment in safe and working condition
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience working on heavy-duty trucks and diesel engines
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics
  • Experience working in field service or mobile repair environments preferred
  • Ability to operate diagnostic tools, laptops, and repair software
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or ability to obtain
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including overnight and extended stays as needed
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Adaptability to work in various weather and job site conditions
  • Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs regularly
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined or awkward spaces
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to travel frequently and work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends
  • Combination of shop setting and outdoor job sites
  • Frequent exposure to noise, dust, grease, and heavy machinery
  • Travel required across multiple states and job locations
  • Competitive hourly wage or salary (based on experience)
