School Bus Substitute Driver | Safe Routes & Student Impact

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possession of current Oregon state driver’s license.
• Must possess valid Oregon commercial driver’s license (CDL) with passenger air brake and “S” endorsements and/or other license(s) necessary for operating a school bus.
• Successful completion of ten hours of instruction behind the wheel of a school bus required.
• Hold and keep a current first aid card when required by the district.
• Satisfactory completion of a physical exam as required.

• Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing the operation of a school bus, traffic signs and devices, safe motor vehicle driving techniques, state and district rules regarding traffic safety, passenger loading and unloading, and student discipline.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and lawful manner during varying weather and traffic.
• Ability to drive a school bus safely and efficiently while keeping to established schedules.
• Ability to maintain discipline among students while they are being transported and at bus stops.
• Experience in driving a heavy motor vehicle desirable.
• Ability to recognize malfunctions in equipment and take appropriate action. Ability to maintain the assigned vehicle in clean and safe operating condition.
