Position Overview
This position supports the Oregon Department of Transportation’s Highway Maintenance crew in Condon, OR. The successful applicant will operate heavy and light equipment to maintain, repair and inspect roadways, bridges, structures and associated infrastructure. The role also involves emergency cleanup and traffic control following weather events, spills, or incidents.
Responsibilities- Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and tools to maintain and repair numerous road surfaces.
- Assist with weather‑related emergencies by operating snowplows, deicer trucks and additional equipment to clear snow.
- Perform minor surface repairs including pothole and concrete patching and inlay work.
- Maintain and repair fences, guardrails, concrete barriers and milepost markers.
- Maintain drainage systems, dig and clean ditches, and repair culverts, inlets and erosion controls.
- Clear debris, brush, mow grass and spray roadside vegetation; maintain wooded areas (replanting, pruning, thinning or trimming trees and shrubs).
- Service and repair motorized equipment and tools; perform light janitorial work, painting and carpentry.
- Respond within 30 minutes to emergency call‑outs at 406
E. Frazer St., Condon, OR.
- One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work.
- OR two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.
- CDL‑A – Must possess a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL‑A) with no air brake restrictions, no 5‑th wheel restrictions, and no manual transmission restrictions. A tanker endorsement must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Valid driver license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain a CDL‑A within the federal policy restrictions for applicants holding a lawful employment authorization document (EAD).
- Experience in road maintenance, construction, or a maintenance training program (e.g., ODOT High School to Highway, ODOT/ODF Fire and Ice program, Job Corps).
- Experience with hand tools and operating light and heavy equipment such as tractors, excavators, loaders, or dump trucks.
- Experience working on a team and communicating effectively verbally and in written form.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe.
