Join our team! Glide School District is seeking a dynamic School Bus Driver. This position is 0.5 FTE, 5 hours per day on a four‑day school week (Monday through Thursday). The driver will operate school buses or any District‑pupil‑transporting vehicle on scheduled routes, field trips, and other approved trips. The position requires a valid Oregon driver’s license, Class A preferred, and an Oregon Department of Education School Bus Drivers Certificate.
Responsibilities- Follow and maintain all applicable district and department policies, procedures, and state regulations.
- Drive school buses or any district pupil‑transporting vehicle on scheduled routes, field trips, and other approved trips, including vehicles equipped for wheelchairs or other special needs.
- Transport students with special needs, maintaining confidentiality and safety.
- Observe all traffic laws, Oregon standards, and defensive‑driving techniques.
- Operate and service bus equipment and accessories (doors, windows, radios, fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, tire chains, first aid kits, seat‑belt cutters).
- Coordinate with other districts and parents regarding daily route schedules and operations.
- Plan and develop route changes as necessary.
- Follow accident and emergency procedures, including first aid.
- Maintain a record of trip mileage, number of passengers, stops, etc., as required by supervisor.
- Ensure safety and order on the bus, reporting undisciplined students to the appropriate administrator.
- Keep the bus exterior and interior clean, checking for mechanical defects before each operation and notifying supervision of any issues.
- Pick up and discharge students only at authorized stops and for those on the route list or with a bus pass.
- Report all accidents and incidents accurately and promptly.
- Work collaboratively with district, building administrators, and other transportation staff to provide reliable service.
- Interact courteously with students, staff, administrators, and parents, resolving conflict professionally.
- Communicate clearly with coworkers and other staff.
- Dress professionally and maintain confidentiality of student and staff information.
- Maintain required certifications and training hours.
- Attend work daily as assigned and be punctual.
- Adhere to the daily schedule.
Complete and implement training as needed regarding special needs of students and demonstrate sensitivity to the students being transported. Additional compensation is provided for these duties.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to interact calmly with students and maintain concentration and patience in noisy and distracting conditions.
- Fluent verbal and written English skills; basic telephone and office skills.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Common sense reasoning and ability to handle problems involving several variables.
- Basic computer skills (email, data entry).
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, administrators, parents, vendors, and community members.
- Valid Oregon driver’s license, Class A preferred;
Class A (or
B) license and Oregon School Bus Driver Certificate required. - Pass pre‑employment drug screening and criminal history check.
The role requires frequent walking, use of hands for fine manipulation, reaching, and standing. The employee must sit for prolonged periods, occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lifting up to 60 pounds (occasionally 100 pounds) and providing passenger assistance on/off the bus may be required. Vision requirements include sharp vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.

Glide School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP). Eligible employees receive a 6 % contribution to their Individual Account Program (IAP). The district also offers a four‑day work week, wellness programs, and access to gym facilities.
