Tax Manager

Department: Finance

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Oregon - Clackamas

Reporting To: VP of Accounting

Compensation: $115,000 - $145,000 / year

Summary

The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant tax filings across all jurisdictions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Tax Compliance

  • Oversee preparation, review and filing of federal, state, local, and industry‑specific tax returns and regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws, regulations and reporting requirements across operating jurisdictions.
  • Manage sales, use, excise, franchise, property, payroll and other applicable tax filings.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and communicate potential impacts to leadership.

Tax Planning & Strategy

  • Partner with Finance leadership to develop tax planning strategies that support objectives and minimize exposure.
  • Research tax issues and provide recommendations on business transactions, acquisitions, and initiatives.
  • Evaluate tax implications of new products, operations and expansion into new markets.
  • Support long‑term tax planning and forecasting activities.

Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Prepare and review tax provisions, reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules and disclosures.
  • Collaborate with Accounting during month‑end and year‑end close processes.
  • Ensure tax accounts in the general ledger are accurate and reconciled.
  • Assist with financial statement disclosures related to income taxes.

Audits & Regulatory Support

  • Coordinate tax audits, examinations and information requests from agencies.
  • Partner with external advisors and auditors to support annual audits and compliance reviews.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records per regulatory requirements.
  • Resolve notices, assessments and inquiries in a timely manner.

Process Improvement & Internal Controls

  • Develop, implement and maintain tax policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Support implementation and optimization of software and reporting systems.
  • Maintain documentation to support compliance and audit readiness.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with Accounting, Payroll, Sales, Operations and consultants to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to stakeholders.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning.
  • Lead special tax‑related projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on business needs.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • 5–8 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Taxation preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Experience with multi‑state compliance and reporting required.
  • Experience in consumer‑packaged goods or regulated industries preferred.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP as it relates to income taxes.
  • Experience working with a high sense of urgency in a team or independent setting.

Ability & Technical Skills

  • Excellent analytical, research and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulations and communicate recommendations clearly.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to lead peers and communicate across teams.
  • Ability to work under urgent conditions while maintaining accuracy in a fast‑paced environment.
  • English language proficiency.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Slack, Jira or similar platforms.
  • Occasional travel between company sites.

Certifications & Compliance

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must successfully complete a pre‑employment background check where permitted.
  • Must obtain and maintain all required licenses, permits and certifications.
  • Serv Safe or Food Handler’s Card preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Compliance with all company safety, sanitation, quality and food safety policies required at all times.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
Benefits

Competitive salary of $115,000–$145,000 per year, 11 paid holidays, 120 hours of PTO, 401(k), and fully paid health, dental and vision insurance.
