The CSO is an unarmed, uniformed position that supports the Sheriff’s Office by providing administrative support, public information, and routine assistance to sworn deputies. The role is performed in secure Sheriff’s facilities and requires significant public interaction via telephone or in person.

- Minimum of two (2) years of related experience, such as customer service or data entry, that demonstrates knowledge and skills needed for the position.
- Experience serving a diverse population.
- Experience in data entry within a computerized system.
- Ability to develop and write detailed reports.
- Flexibility to work in a rapidly changing environment.
- Experience handling confidential information.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, nights, and on-call duty as required.
- Experience working in a law‑enforcement or judicial environment.
- Experience providing customer service in busy, noisy settings.
- Knowledge of compliance, regulations, and policies relevant to law‑enforcement customers.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Pass post‑offer, pre‑employment drug test.
- Pass an extensive background investigation, including national fingerprint records check.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; driving required for County business.
- Obtain Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification within 3 months of employment.
- Veteran’s Preference:
Veterans qualified for preference may list transferable skills in the application open question.
All applicants must complete an online OPAC data entry test within 72 hours of receiving the testing link.
Typical Tasks- Provide accurate, technical information to the public, media, and other agencies; assist in press releases.
- Take, complete, and file non‑emergency crime reports; dispatch and manage calls in the CAD system.
- Orient and assist law‑enforcement personnel with office operations and computer systems.
- Perform administrative support: retrieve data, issue subpoenas, process custody and vehicle release forms, gather criminal histories, confirm warrants.
- Schedule and coordinate shift coverage; request support services from other agencies.
- Log evidence and aid in property release.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and ordinance applicable to the Sheriff’s Department.
- Interpret and apply law‑enforcement policies and procedures; maintain accurate records.
- Research, retrieve, and organize information; communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Operate and troubleshoot office equipment and computer software.
- Resolve conflicts with hostile or distressed individuals; establish cooperative relationships.
