Job Description

Perform various inspections of construction of buildings and other types of construction work and/or repairs. Ensuring construction follows tribal, state and federal codes, regulations, ordinances and laws. Ensure all phases of work are inspected as work is performed. Closely monitor and observe work-in-progress to ensure materials, labor, and procedures used are following acceptable established standards, specifications, codes, and building plans. Inspect all remodel, additions, or renovation that apply under current ordinances, rules and regulations.

Interpret blueprints and specifications for contractors and discuss deviation from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction. Maintain current and necessary daily reports on all construction and inspection activities for each project. Conduct and prepare appraisals on private property and homes to obtain present market values and complete budget estimating cost to bring homes up to code requirements with current policy, procedures, and practices.

Maintain current daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports on all construction and inspection activities for each project.

Plan review to ensure Tribal, State, and Federal code requirements are met on all construction projects prior to issuing Tribal Building Permit to contractors. Coordinate inspection with other outside/off reservation inspection agencies when code calls for it (i.e. State electrical inspector, state plumbing inspector, State of Oregon elevator inspection and certification, etc.).

Requirements

Two-year Certified Building Inspector for Commercial Construction. Journeyman’s certificate, State certification in manufacturing, residential, electrical and plumbing. State of Oregon Certified Inspector in One- and Two-family dwellings. National certification levels of One- and Two-family Dwellings as Mechanical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, and Plan Reviewer. Five years’ experience in the construction industry either as a contractor or inspector.
