The Adult Services and Collaboratory Librarian (Interim Developmental Assignment) is subject to the terms outlined in the Interim Developmental Assignment Memorandum of Agreement ("MOA"). Introduction / OpeningThe City of Hillsboro Library is seeking an internal candidate for an Adult Services and Collaboratory Librarian (Interim Developmental Assignment). This opportunity is designed for a library employee who is interested in expanding their professional experience in adult programming, program development, and collaborative learning environments.
This role blends adult program development, Collaboratory oversight, and public service support. It is well suited for someone who enjoys being proactive, creative, and community-focused, and who is interested in gaining experience developing programs that respond to adult community needs.
Position Overview:What You’ll Be Doing
In this interim assignment, the Librarian will focus on developing adult programming and Collaboratory initiatives
, while also supporting public service operations. The Librarian is responsible for developing and overseeing programs
, while Library Support Specialists and other staff may assist with program delivery.
This role works closely with Programming staff, community partners, the Events and Programming Library Supervisor, and other library teams to bring ideas from concept to implementation. The Librarian will:
- Research community interests and identify gaps or opportunities in adult programming
- Initiate project ideas and prepare proposals for review by Library Leadership Develop, oversee, and facilitate adult-focused programs, workshops, and learning opportunities
- Communicate program expectations with facilitators, instructors, and volunteers
- Support public service operations, including assisting customers with technology and other equipment available in the Collaboratory.
- Lead or support patron-focused initiatives and special projects
A core component of this role is to support the Collaboratory space and the people who use it. The Librarian will:
- Oversee Collaboratory equipment to ensure it is safe, functional, and ready for staff and public use
- Work with library staff to ensure appropriate training on tools, equipment, and maker activities
- Create or coordinate training materials and documentation for staff and patrons
- Train and support staff on best practices for Collaboratory use
- Partner with the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator to train and support volunteers assisting with adult programming and Collaboratory activities
While responsibilities may shift based on programming needs, time is generally divided as follows:
- Public Service Floor Support: approximately 50%
- Adult Programming Development: approximately 25%
- Collaboratory Program Development: approximately 25%
This assignment will support and contribute to a range of initiatives, including:
- Collaborative programming across library teams
- Participation on the Collaboratory Charter Team
- Development of adult programming for fall and winter 2026 seasons
- 2027 adult programming and workshops, including signature programs
