Position Overview
Position Title: Autism Spectrum Disorder Consultant
Department: Special Student Services
Location: Columbia County Service Center - Serves Columbia and Clatsop County
Reports To: Coordinator - SPED
Compensation: Licensed Salary Schedule
FTE: 1.0 - 192 days per year

General DescriptionIn alignment with the NWRESD's mission, this position provides assistance to EI/ECSE staff, K-12 Special Education, and District Staff regarding evaluation and services for students suspected to be, or identified as eligible for special education services under the category of Autism Spectrum Disorder. This position may also be responsible for completing student evaluations and attending required Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) (IFSP & IEP) meetings as needed.
Qualifications:Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Complete initial evaluations and re-evaluations for determining student eligibility for special education under the category of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Assist the local Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) with initial evaluations and re-evaluations for determining student eligibility for special education services under the category of Autism.
- Development and presentation of professional development and workshops designated in the service plans.
- Conduct individual student observations.
- Provide in-service training to staff and families regarding behavioral and learning characteristics of children with autism.
- Assist local building staff in identifying staff and student needs.
- Assist local building staff in their responsibility to develop, implement, and monitor student programs.
- Provide effective communication with families and other professionals.
- Utilize appropriate strategies to facilitate team effectiveness.
- Participate in staff meetings and program in-services.
- Maintain records and reporting requirements as specified by the supervisor and program.
- Continue professional growth, especially in regard to current issues related to Autism.
- Provide consulting to local districts regarding special education eligibility, IFSP & IEP goals and objectives, and appropriate educational intervention and progress monitoring procedures.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
