Position Overview

Trask River School, a program of the Tillamook School District in partnership with the Oregon Youth Authority and Oregon Department of Education, is located within the Tillamook Youth Correctional Facility and Camp Tillamook. We are seeking a full‑time Vocational/CTE (Career Technical Education) Teacher to deliver hands‑on, skills‑based education to youth in custody.

This is a highly impactful teaching opportunity focused on career exploration and skill development for youth ages 12–25. We are more interested in finding the right fit—a passionate educator or skilled tradesperson who can connect with and motivate justice‑involved youth—than we are in matching a single exact specialty. Candidates with a collaborative mindset, flexible skill set, and commitment to student growth are highly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher—may be replaced by industry/field experience.
  • Hold or be able to obtain an Oregon Teaching and/or CTE License through TSPC.
  • Skill and/or experience in a vocational or skilled‑trade area.
  • Ability to pass a background check and meet Oregon Youth Authority clearance requirements.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Adhere to Standards for Competent and Ethical Performance of Oregon Educators.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry and/or teaching experience in welding, fabrication, construction, small engine repair, mechanics, manufacturing, or related fields.
  • Experience and/or desire to teach in alternative and/or secure residential settings.
  • Desire and willingness to serve justice‑impacted youth.
  • Training or experience with trauma‑informed, culturally responsive instructional practices.
  • Familiarity with certifications, employability skills, and career pathway exploration.
  • Bilingual (especially Spanish) is a plus.
  • Candidates with a flexible skill set or interdisciplinary teaching abilities are especially encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver career‑focused, project‑based instruction.
  • Provide hands‑on learning in one or more trade areas, adapting instruction to meet students' interests and abilities, and program outcomes.
  • Maintain an engaging, safe, and organized learning environment that simulates real‑world work expectations.
  • Collaborate with academic teachers, counselors, and Oregon Youth Authority staff to support whole‑student development.
  • Assist students in building soft skills, earning credentials, and preparing for post‑secondary transitions.
  • Contribute to program development and continuous improvement of vocational offerings.
  • Model professionalism, growth mindset, and inclusive practices.
