Position Overview
This is a student‑worker position for current Chemeketa Community College students only. The role provides peer tutoring at the Salem Campus, Yamhill Valley Campus, Woodburn Center, and/or the Polk Center. Training is provided. Positions are part of the institution’s effort to support an inclusive, culturally competent learning environment.
Essential Functions- Assist students with understanding course material in assigned areas.
- Promote the tutoring center and its services.
- Complete related record‑keeping in Navigate.
- Recognize when referral to additional support is appropriate.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Chemeketa Community College and its educational philosophy.
- Communicate and work effectively with students, staff, and the public from diverse cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
- Attend required team or department meetings and trainings.
- Use appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions.
- Provide high‑quality, effective service to internal and external customers.
- Perform all other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Enrolled at Chemeketa Community College for at least 6 credits each term.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (or discuss eligibility with staff if currently below 3.0).
- Earn an A or B grade and instructor recommendation in courses to be tutored.
- Actively embrace and practice principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Be open to feedback, suggestions, and evaluation.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills.
- Be proficient with technology.
- Work effectively with students at different academic levels.
- Hold a Federal Work‑Study award.
- Be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Work 10 to 15 hours per week; maximum of 900 hours per fiscal year.
- All positions are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
- Flexible schedule may include evenings and/or weekends.
- Position may require use of personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations.
- Applicants must maintain residency in Oregon, Washington, or Idaho.
- Successful candidates must pass a background inquiry (criminal, driving, credit, and other relevant checks). Only relevant information is considered.
Sedentary work with occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds. The role involves sitting most of the time, with occasional standing and walking as required.
