Overview

The Commissioning Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and executing the commissioning process for mission-critical data center projects. This role ensures all building systems—electrical, mechanical, controls, life safety, and IT infrastructure—are designed, installed, tested, and operate according to owner requirements and industry standards for reliability, uptime, and performance.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage the commissioning plan, schedule, and documentation from design through turnover
  • Lead commissioning for MEP, BMS, EPMS, UPS, generators, cooling systems, fire/life safety, and IT infrastructure
  • Coordinate with design, construction, vendors, and operations teams
  • Oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and Level 1–5 commissioning
  • Manage issue tracking, deficiency resolution, and close-out
  • Ensure compliance with ASHRAE, NFPA, TIA-942, Uptime Institute, and owner standards
  • Lead witness testing and functional performance verification
  • Prepare and deliver final commissioning reports and turnover documentation
  • Support training for operations and facilities teams
  • Enforce safety, quality, and risk-mitigation protocols
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field)
  • 7+ years experience in data center commissioning or mission-critical facilities
  • Strong knowledge of MEP systems and data center infrastructure
  • Experience leading integrated systems testing (IST)
  • Familiar with commissioning standards and protocols
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Ability to travel to project sites as required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with hyperscale or colocation data centers
  • Knowledge of LEED or sustainability commissioning
  • Familiarity with BIM, Bluebeam, and commissioning software
  • Construction sites and operational data centers
  • High-pressure, fast-paced project environments
  • Occasional nights/weekends during critical testing phases
