Job Description

Rubicon is seeking an Environmental Coordinator supporting the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Department located in Geismar. This position will report to the Environmental Engineering Manager.

Job Scope

The Environmental Coordinator supports the site Environment Health & Safety (EHS) function by coordinating day-to-day environmental compliance activities, with primary focus on Waste Management to include Non-Hazardous Waste, Hazardous Waste (HW) / Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Universal Waste and recycling program requirements. This role maintains regulatory documentation, supports environmental performance reporting, coordinates waste vendors and shipments, and partners with operations and contractors to promote safe, compliant waste handling practices.

Responsibilities
  • Manage site Waste collection, segregation, staging, and disposal activities to ensure compliance with site procedures and applicable state/federal requirements.
  • Coordinate waste vendor services (e.g., roll-offs, compactors, recycling) and maintain documentation (e.g., Manifest) to support internal and regulatory recordkeeping.
  • Maintain waste shipment/disposal records and support internal reporting, including environmental key performance indicators (KPIs) as assigned.
  • Support day-to-day Hazardous Waste (HW) / RCRA program implementation, including generator support for proper waste characterization, labeling, container management, and accumulation requirements.
  • Complete required inspections of HW containers and permitted storage/accumulation areas; identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with area owners.
  • Coordinate shipments to off-site Treatment, Storage, and Disposal (TSD) facilities, including preparation and maintenance of required regulatory documentation.
  • Utilize site database systems to document waste management and environmental compliance activities; maintain records in accordance with retention requirements.
  • Communicate environmental compliance expectations to employees and contractors; provide practical guidance on waste handling and disposal requirements.
  • Promote and participate in Safety Leadership activities; model safe work practices and support Rubicon’s safety culture in all interactions.
  • Support Environmental Department Engineers with program execution, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives related to waste compliance and performance.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support environmental compliance needs, including after-hours response, coordination, and escalation as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma required.
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial plant operations and/or environmental compliance.
  • Must complete annual RCRA training and any site-required waste management training applicable to solid and hazardous waste.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a technical field.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations governing Solid Waste and Hazardous Waste (HW) / RCRA compliance.
  • Ability to communicate environmental compliance requirements effectively to employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency using database systems and standard office software to document environmental compliance and manage records.
  • Provide practical advice and guidance on waste management and environmental compliance issues to employees and contractors within assigned areas.
  • Identify compliance gaps through field observations and inspections; drive timely corrective actions and follow-up.
  • Recommend improvement opportunities to increase efficiency, organization, cost effectiveness, and compliance performance of waste programs.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail for documentation, recordkeeping, and data entry to support audits and regulatory requirements.
Working Environment
  • Activities are performed in support of Environmental Department Engineers that oversee site waste management compliance programs, including Solid Waste and HW/RCRA requirements.
