Explosives Safety Testing Subject Matter

Position Description Summary

APT Research is hiring a part time on call Explosives Safety Testing Subject Matter Expert to support our contracts in Huntsville, AL. Responsibilities will include a variety of tasks requiring explosives safety expertise.

• Assisting large‑scale explosives testing.
• The ability and willingness to support occasional large‑scale testing efforts which involve extended temporary duty travel (TDY) and full days of light outdoor work in arid or humid environments.
• Comfortable with public speaking in technical settings and leading task groups.
• Working independently without supervision.
• Note:
  
  This position will not involve handling explosives directly.

• A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in mechanical engineering or a similar applied math/science field.
• 20+ years of related experience.
• TP‑21 test experience.

Active security clearance is not required, but must be able to obtain one.

• Explosives safety experience.
• Full‑scale explosives safety field testing.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.).
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

Work Environment:
Field testing. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and written. Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers. Ability to travel domestically in support of testing.

Test support requires extended standing/walking and light labor (potentially in arid environments).

• Ability to work independently without supervision, lead testing task teams, make rational decisions, and exercise good judgement.
• Work attire must be appropriate for the work activity and must not impose a safety risk or hazard to the employee or others.
