Limited : Investment Sr Transportation Planner

This is a limited duration position and is expected to conclude 6/30/2028 but could end earlier based on business needs.

The Investment Areas Team is looking for a Senior Transportation Planner to play a key role in advancing transportation corridor planning, freight planning and implementation of the regional mobility policy.

As a senior transportation planner you will play an important role in developing and explaining future transportation investments to community members, elected officials and others. With the rest of the Investment Areas team, you will move our region toward more equitable outcomes, more inclusive decision-making and focus policy on building a future where people flourish. This position is supervised by the Investment Areas Manager in the Planning, Development and Research Department.

• Manage transportation corridor development and analysis for use in the 2028 RTP and beyond
• Lead or support a variety of complex regional and transportation planning initiatives, working closely with cities, counties, and other jurisdictional partners
• Prepare and deliver presentations of technical and policy issues to the Metro Council, elected officials, project committees, community groups and the general public
• Initiate and maintain relationships with community, business, and local government partners involved in freight planning
• Lead implementation of and updates to the regional Mobility Policy, including regional compliance with the federal Congestion Management Process
• Fulfill Metro’s core values of public service, excellence, teamwork, respect, innovation and sustainability

• Able to work independently as part of a small team of planners and engineers
• Knowledge of planning processes
• Strong communication skills; making technical information accessible and easy to understand in a variety of mediums including graphics, maps, narrative and presentations
• Systems thinker with critical thinking and problem solving ability
• Remain current on public policy, planning strategies, and federal and state regulations and requirements related to multimodal planning
• Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholder groups and develop equitable consensus around shared outcomes
• Ability to work effectively with other agencies and jurisdiction staff
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Passion for people, policy and technical details

• Bachelor’s degree in planning and/or related field; AND
• Three years of technical transportation planning/modeling with extensive computer experience; OR
• Any combination of education, professional, volunteer and lived experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities

• Demonstrated experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders
• Ability to work with and successfully lead a team of professional colleagues and consultants
  
  Employment Type

  Hybrid telework: option to work away from the office, with at least one day per week in the office as needed. Employees must reside in Oregon or Washington to work at Metro.

  Compensation

  The full-salary range for this position is step 1: $91,400.94 to step 7: $. However, unless a candidate’s qualifications justify, the appointment will likely be made between step 1: $91,400.94 to the equity range step 4: $.
