Social Services Examiner
This position involves responsibility for determining financial eligibility for the various programs administered by the local social services district and/or recommending amounts of assistance in accordance with established policies and procedures as well as for investigating the financial status of individuals to provide for the support of others.
Some leeway is permitted for the use of independent judgment in planning and carrying out the details of the work according to prescribed rules and procedures. May perform other duties as required.
Civil Service non-competitive position through the HELP Program - No Exam Required
The Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program temporarily removes the civil service exam requirement for specific health and human services titles across State and Local agencies. To be eligible for jobs in the HELP program, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the position and other conditions of employment. More information may be provided if you indicate interest in the position.
Minimum Qualifications- (A) Completion of two years (60 semester hours) of study in a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university; OR
- (B) Graduation from high school or possession of a GED or high school equivalency diploma and two years of experience examining, investigating, or evaluating claims for assistance, financial support, veterans, or unemployment benefits, insurance or similar program operating under established criteria for eligibility. Time in a volunteer role/position will count as experience.
Possession of a valid New York State Drivers' License.
