The Culinary Services Manager oversees the Culinary Services department by ensuring the nutritional health of residents while complying with all state & federal regulations. You serve as an advocate & resource for the department while meeting organizational goals. You are essential for providing person-centered resident care and providing a ministry of gentle service!
Per Minnesota Department of Human Services guidelines, must have successful passing of background screening.
ACCOUNTABILITIES Leadership/Management- Develop & maintain a functioning Culinary Services Department organizational structure.
- Assign & delegate responsibility & authority within the department
- Maintain accurate records of personnel, income, expenditures, food supplies, and inventory levels.
- Partake in the recruiting process including interviewing, hiring and onboarding of culinary services staff
- Responsible for adhering & implementing workplace policies – issuing disciplinary action and/or terminations, performance reviews, workers compensation process, payroll processes, etc.
- Oversee scheduling of Culinary Services Department employees to ensure appropriate level of staff to meet current resident needs.
- Update departmental policies & procedures to reflect best practices related to skilled nursing facilities to correlate with State of MN & Federal regulation/compliance requirements.
- Plan & manage budget for the department & advise administration of major supplies & equipment needs while overseeing the ordering of all supplies, and ensuring accurate & timely submission of invoices.
- Manage year end meal census & inventory submissions
- Coordinate culinary services with other services within & outside the facility as needed
- Visit new residents within 24 hours of admission, understanding nutritional needs & adhere to modified/special and/or general diets
- Attend resident care conferences as needed
- Provide menus and oversee meal production for all St. Luke’s & other applicable entities – Friendship Court, New Life Manor, Southview Estates, Blue Earth Senior Center, Tri-Valley Opportunity Council, and St Luke’s residents.
- Attend Resident Council Meetings for all St. Luke’s entities
- Complete audit forms & attend Quality Assurance meetings to ensure the highest quality of care.
- Complete all MDS assessment/cause/etc. in a timely manner according to MDS schedule
- Process diet orders & changes & develop appropriate dietary plans in collaboration with registered dietician(s)
- Monitor resident weights & heights on a monthly basis.
- Keep current on latest developments by attending professional seminars, institutes & professional journals.
- Initiate & conduct culinary services related meetings while documenting content of training. This may include severe weather policy procedures & other emergency procedures while including contracted dietician(s)
- Demonstrate excellent communication & positive working relationships with all stakeholders within and outside the organization. Examples include residents & their family members, volunteers, visitors, external agencies, healthcare professionals, internal departments, etc.
- Ensure compliance within the culinary services department, organizational policies, systems, regulations and demonstrate a strong commitment to St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center’s mission of providing a ministry of gentle service and person-centered care.
- As part of the overall team, you may be requested to assist in the support of other resident care activities
- Promote positive image of St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center by embracing person-centered care with a positive attitude.
- Be available to staff for consultation for any areas of concern
- Provide support for Assisted Living facility regarding culinary services & licensing policy/procedure
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and Compliance, Vulnerable Adult Policy, and any other policies in addition to other job specific policies
- Attend scheduled mandatory in‑services & complete any required curriculums assigned via online learning portal
