Paramedic and/or Advanced EMT – Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services
General Work DescriptionBeaufort County Emergency Medical Services will conduct interviews for eight Paramedic and/or full‑time Advanced EMT positions. Candidates must currently hold the appropriate certification. The role involves responding to emergency scenes, providing necessary medical treatment, and transporting patients to medical facilities. Responsibilities include community outreach and education, vehicle preparation and maintenance, continuous in‑service training, and assistance to volunteer emergency medical service organizations.
Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities
A successful candidate will:
• Respond to emergency calls and provide basic and advanced life support to patients.
• Use protocols and standards established by the EMS System and Medical Directors.
• Administer approved medications, vascular access infusion, pulmonary ventilation, and obtain 12‑lead EKGs.
• Perform patient assessment, airway management, CPR, oxygen administration, hemorrhage control, shock treatment, wound care, splinting, and assistance in childbirth.
• Handle injuries from heat, cold, burns, and other traumas.
• Transport patients to appropriate medical facilities.
Competence to perform heavy physical work, lifting up to 125 pounds or 250 pounds combined, and regular standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. Ability to speak, hear, and use hands for repetitive motions is essential.
Education, Training, and ExperienceHigh school graduation required. At least moderate experience as a Paramedic, or equivalent education/experience. Must possess North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services certification as a Paramedic. Advanced EMT or Basic EMT candidates must be currently certified and enrolled in a training class, with certification obtainable within 12 months.
Special Requirements- North Carolina EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications, or acceptable equivalents.
- Pre‑Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification or acceptable equivalent.
- Completion of NIMS 100, 200, and 700 courses.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Compliance with applicable North Carolina Administrative Code Title 21, Sub Chapter 32H, Section .0501.

Salary- Paramedic – Annual Salary: $55,452 (Salary Grade 66)
- Advanced EMT – Annual Salary: $48,592 (Salary Grade 63)
- EMT – Annual Salary: $44,497 (Salary Grade 61)
- EMT Trainee – Annual Salary: $42,270 (Salary Grade N/A)
