The IT Specialist will provide strong problem‑solving skills in hardware and software, Windows platforms, Active Directory and other relevant technologies. The role involves assisting in implementing, analyzing, maintaining and supporting Knife River point‑of‑sales systems; configuring, setting up and maintaining workstations and servers; keeping all IT and OT equipment patched and adhering to all corporate software/hardware standards and security policies. Travel to company locations for application implementations and support is required.
Responsibilities- Assist in the administration of file directory structure and security on all Windows servers in conjunction with the Knife River Corporate IT Team
- Ensure computers, routers, switches and Operational Technology equipment (cameras, etc.) have up‑to‑date anti‑virus, security software, operating system patches, remote control tools in conjunction with Knife River Corporate IT Team
- Provide network support for the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN)
- Assist in providing technical knowledge in the planning, installation, and configuration of LAN hardware and software equipment
- Assist in providing ongoing technical support for the identification, analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of LAN/WAN malfunctions in a timely manner; identify problems requiring vendor assistance and coordinate vendor technical support
- Assist in installing and supporting cameras, wireless equipment, traffic controls, scale interfaces and other supporting hardware for Point of Sales systems
- Assist in effectively organizing hardware inventories and secure data rooms to help provide efficient support
- Assist with documentation of systems, end user procedures and hardware systems and offices to optimize departmental efficiencies
- Provide end user technical support in a timely and professional manner
- Remain technically competent by constantly expanding technology knowledge base
- Perform routine maintenance on all company computers
- Work on special projects as assigned by the Knife River Corporate IT Team or local management team
- Coordinate testing of patches/upgrades with the Knife River Corporate IT Team
- Contribute knowledge of and provide technical support for the deployment and migration of new network technologies in an active directory, Citrix, AVD and Cloud environments
- Travel to subsidiary company locations for application implementations and support; act as an extension of the Knife River Corporate IT Team
- Possess and exhibit the highest level of moral and ethical standards at all times
- Understand and adhere to current KRC policies as it relates to IT security and access to confidential information
- Be available to assist with scheduled on‑call support and technical emergencies as required
- Two years of specialized training (e.g., trade or technical school) or an associate degree
- One to two years of related IT experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of computer and network hardware and cabling
- Knowledge of computer network protocols such as TCP/IP and working knowledge of DNS
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of considerable standing, walking, crawling, and lifting of personal computers
- Must have a current, valid driver’s license and maintain acceptable driving record
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Office 365, Excel, Word and Power Point
- Experience configuring and supporting Windows operating systems
- Experience in coordinating tasks assigned to 3rd party IT service providers
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers
- Understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality of all company information
