JOB SUMMARY

Industrial Manufacturing Engineer II works in a fast‑paced team environment in direct collaboration with operations to meet customer demand and stabilize current manufacturing processes. This role is required to maintain up-to-date value stream maps, define the future state of an optimized process, and continually drive improvement in an effort to stabilize the system.
Daily communication with Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Design Engineering, and lab functions is required. As Benchmade continues to grow, we must focus on process capability in order to reduce the noise in the process. The Industrial Manufacturing Engineer II is a key contributor in the value stream engineering structure and will assist in developing and tracking an OEE metric for work centers in order to understand process health and improvement over time.

ESSENTIAL

JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Work as a key member of a value stream engineering team to apply sound problem‑solving techniques to solve manufacturing and/or material‑related issues.
  • Lead technical teams through complex problem‑solving activities.
  • Ability to utilize statistical‑based tools (i.e., design of experiments) to gather and analyze data.
  • Organize tests (DOE) to isolate and control process variables.
  • Ability to understand & identify key input variables in a variety of operations, collect and analyze process data, and implement process control measures to reduce variability across the manufacturing organization.
  • Ability to drive to the root cause when complex issues arise.
  • Drive cost reduction efforts through the use of Lean Manufacturing techniques leveraging expertise in:
    Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), fixture design & optimization, Tool life studies, process flow analysis, statistical process control, etc.
  • Leverage soft skills and relationship‑building techniques to engage the people in the process to gain buy‑in and perspective.
  • Interface with the QMS, CAD, and ERP systems to gather information and create job routes & BOMs relative to the production process.
  • Ability to look forward and seek improvements & optimization opportunities in manufacturing.
  • Support the production organization and provide superior customer service to the shop floor as a technically advanced employee.
  • Manage a variety of projects ranging from small to large, varying in level of technicality, with demanding schedules.
  • Clearly define and document production processes.
  • Ability and desire to train Tech Leads and Operators on updated process standards.
  • Distribute clear and concise project updates, problem resolution summaries, and other technical reports to all levels of the business.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A bachelor’s degree in industrial or manufacturing engineering or another related degree, and 3‑4 years of hands‑on industrial and/or Manufacturing Engineering experience required.
  • Preferred experience in milling, grinding, vibratory finishing, laser cutting, and assembly.
  • Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.
  • Applied problem‑solving techniques.
  • Proven approach and ability to analyze data and drive to the root cause required.
  • Strong prioritization skills and flexibility to adjust based on organizational needs.
  • Background in Lean Manufacturing preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and team skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Experience with CREO preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Working Environment:
Office Position in a manufacturing environment.

Physical Demands:
Lifting to 25 lbs., sitting and talking on the phone and computer for long periods of time.

Travel Requirements:
As needed, less than 5% of the time.
