Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The RN’s practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN has knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served. The RN records patients’ medical history and symptoms, helps perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and helps with patient follow‑up and rehabilitation.

The RN establishes a care plan or contributes to an existing plan, including activities such as administering medication, starting and maintaining IV lines, providing therapies, observing the patient and recording those observations, consulting with physicians and other healthcare clinicians, teaching patients and families, directing licensed practical nurses and nursing aides, advancing clinical knowledge, precepting new hires and students, and continually improving patient experience and clinical outcomes.

Nursing practices are evidence‑based and based on a Shared Governance model for decision‑making. All RN staff with direct responsibility for the care of stroke patients must have knowledge of stroke symptoms, protocols and pathways, NIHSS, Stroke Alert, quality indicators, patient education materials, and community resources.

Essential Functions:

  • Collect health data systematically, prioritize collection, involve families, analyze data, develop evidence‑based family‑centered care plans.
  • Identify individualized goals, develop plans that are evidence‑based and ensure continuity of care.
  • Implement interventions, initiate treatments, meds, emergency measures per standing orders and policies, and provide holistic, family‑centered care.
  • Evaluate patient progress, document observations, interventions and data in a retrievable form, and continuously improve care plans to enhance outcomes.
  • Maintain current knowledge, evaluate nursing practice quality, and integrate ethical principles.
  • Collaborate with peers and multidisciplinary team, foster professional development, participate in preceptor and mentor programs.
  • Apply evidence‑based research, identify practice changes, and use systematic research to improve outcomes.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care, utilizing resources efficiently.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) – Preferred
  • All Diploma and ADN hires must complete BSN within 60 months of hire date OR have 10 years of RN experience (direct or indirect) – Required
