Position: Institution Registered Nurse (Madras)

Position Overview

The Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Deer Ridge Correctional Institution – Madras, Oregon. The role involves delivering comprehensive nursing care within a secure correctional facility, managing patient assessments, treatment plans, medication administration, and coordinating care with other services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Patient Care: Conduct assessments, nursing diagnoses, care planning, medication administration, laboratory and treatment procedures in accordance with ODOC policies and evidence‑based standards.
  • Coordination of Care: Schedule on‑site and community‑based services to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Communication and

    Education:

    Provide patient education and serve as a resource for non‑medical staff regarding health care in the correctional setting.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for patient needs to ensure timely service delivery and mitigate the impact of the correctional environment.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, legible, and complete records of all patient care, including requests, objective data, treatments, and evaluations.
  • Administrative Duties: Coordinate nursing activities with other departments, assume unit operation responsibilities in the absence of management, and manage medical supplies, including narcotic controls and secure storage.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Oregon Registered Professional Nurse’s license at the time of appointment (unencumbered license preferred).
  • Knowledge of professional nursing principles, laboratory terminology, pharmacology, infection control, and use of personal computers.
  • Ability to perform in high‑stress environments and support harm‑reduction initiatives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual proficiency (5% incentive).
  • Bachelor’s (BSN) and/or Master’s (MSN) nursing degrees (4.75% and 9.5% incentives respectively).
  • Experience in correctional or high‑security health care settings.

Work Conditions
