Job Summary

To coordinate the clinical and administrative operations of the WHCNP/CNM Service within the OBGyn Department, ensuring high quality health care to Kaiser Permanente members in a cost-effective manner in accordance with accepted professional practice standards.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Clinical

    Activities:

    Maintains clinical skills through direct patient care. The Regional Lead's direct patient care is proportional to service needs. Usually 20 hours per week administrative time, with remaining 12-20 hours per week performing clinical duties.
  • Human Resources

    Activities:

    Hiring—participates in hiring new AC staff consistent with Labor/Management Partnership principles;
    Orientation—coordinates orientation of new AC staff and facilitates credentialing for CNMs;
    Evaluation—provides input into yearly performance evaluations of WHCNP/CNMs as needed.
  • Scheduling

    Activities:

    Facilitates creation of scheduling templates for CNM groups in all Service Areas; liaises with ObGyn medical staff scheduling; monitors staffing patterns to ensure cost-effective utilization of resources and patient care standards; participates in identifying and recommending staffing levels; coordinates on-call AC staff.
  • Development and implementation of Policies and Guidelines:
    Participates in committees addressing departmental or organizational policies or guidelines; communicates changes to the AC staff timely.
  • Maintenance of Quality Care:
    Represents AC staff on Quality improvement committees or other committees where credentialing, skill assessment, practice or competencies are evaluated; maintains Practice Guidelines specific to AC practice in collaboration with ObGyn Medical Group.
  • Coordination of Student Assignments:
    Liaison between educational programs and AC staff; facilitates placement of NP/CNM students in clinical settings within Kaiser facilities.
  • Budget

    Activities:

    Participates in budgeting of the ObGyn Department; monitors AC budget goals; identifies cost-effective staffing patterns; supports cost containment for the ObGyn Department.
  • Leadership

    Activities:

    Actively participates in administrative meetings at departmental, hospital, and organizational level; provides input in decisions affecting AC area of responsibility; serves as Kaiser CNM liaison to non‑plan hospitals; coordinates Regional ObGyn Regional AC meetings; demonstrates effective communication with patients, clinicians, and staff; facilitates resolution of member concerns related to AC patient care; mentors and coaches staff in training and educational needs.
  • Professional Development:
    Identifies critical leadership behaviors needed to empower staff; takes initiative to meet professional development through varied means; demonstrates critical thinking skills; shares ideas, knowledge, and skills with colleagues; seeks expertise of others to enhance own skills; acts as resource to senior management and other departments regarding AC practice; participates in research and scholarly activities; demonstrates accountability for personal ethical behavior and delegated actions;

    demonstrates responsible and accountable behavior concerning own work schedule.
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience
    :
    Minimum five (5) years of experience as a WHCNP or CNM within the Kaiser Permanente Organization.
  • Education
    :
    Masters in nursing or Masters of Science in nursing degree. Graduate of a nurse-midwifery or women’s health education program accredited by one of the following:
    The American College of Nurse‑Midwives (ACNM) Division of Accreditation (DOA), the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CONE).
  • License, Certification, Registration
    :
    This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required itional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post‑hire.
  • Registered Nurse License (Washington) within 6 months of hire OR Compact License:
    Registered Nurse within 6 months of hire OR Nurse Midwife National Certification OR Nurse Practitioner‑Women’s Health Certification
  • Certified Nurse Midwife (Oregon) within 6 months of hire
  • Registered Nurse License (Oregon) within 6 months of hire
  • Certified Nurse Midwife (Washington) within 6 months of hire
  • Drug Enforcement Administration Registration
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire
  • Basic Life Support
Additional Requirements
  • Experience working with computerized information systems.
  • Completion of Kaiser Permanente LMP Training.
  • Demonstrates experience in clinical, leadership, and team‑building skills.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication, problem solving, decision making, time, and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrates commitment to customer‑focused care.
  • Demonstrates ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and within a dynamic work environment.
