Job Summary:
This recruitment will fill one full‑time Veterinary Technician 2:
Small Animal Float position at the Lois Bates Acheson Veterinary Hospital in the Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University.
The Vet Tech 2 performs duties specific to all technical service areas of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, including receiving, internal medicine, surgical procedures, anesthesia, specialty medicine, rural veterinary service, theriogenology, diagnostic imaging, critical care, plus after‑hours and emergency duties, and assists and instructs students in basic veterinary techniques.
Key Responsibilities- 70% PATIENT CARE: Coordinates client/patient admissions and releases, collaborates with hospital reception, surgery, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, internal and specialty medicine, schedules appointments, obtains client histories, assigns students, ensures proper case management, financial accounting and record‑keeping, creates client estimates, educates client on postoperative care, responds to client inquiries, and advises in client/pet losses.
- GENERAL PATIENT CARE: Assists with outpatient procedures and treatments including endoscopic exams, lameness exams, diagnostic imaging, minor surgical and diagnostic procedures; administers medications; prepares patients for hospitalization; provides guidance to assistants and student workers; assists with clinical research projects.
- INTERNAL MEDICINE: Maintains and operates endoscopic equipment, assists with procedures such as feeding tube placement, tracheal wash, CSF taps, and prepares for interventional radiologic procedures.
- SURGERY: Coordinates pre‑surgery setup, transfers patient information, assists during surgery, provides technical support, cleans and maintains surgical equipment, works closely with the Central Sterile/Drug Room.
- CARDIOLOGY: Performs ECGs, blood pressures, applies monitors, assists with cardiology procedures, maintains equipment.
- ONCOLOGY: Prepares and administers chemotherapeutic agents, orders supplies, maintains biosafety hood, assists with oncology procedures.
- CRITICAL CARE: Performs treatments and diagnostics, administers medications and nutrition, monitors patient status, assists with emergency procedures, maintains blood product supply.
- ANESTHESIA: Evaluates patients, prepares anesthetic plans, participates in induction and recovery, maintains equipment, supports on‑call service.
