Purpose

To interpret film and electronically acquired radiographs of castings using computer applications, ensuring discrepancies meet customer specifications and PCC standards. Parts are approved or routed for repair, marked, and final reports signed to approve castings sent to customers.

Essential Functions

Preparation: Review specifications and radiographs before evaluation.

  • Review Technique Cards and paperwork to part specifications.
  • Sort radiographs by view for each part.
  • Check each radiograph to ensure appropriate image quality.
  • Ensure proper image file management protocol is followed.

Interpretation: Evaluate radiographs to determine casting quality or need for repair according to customer and PCC specifications.

  • Visually evaluate radiographic indications for discontinuities.
  • Interpret discontinuities to assess cause and customer compliance.
  • Identify surface and subsurface discontinuities per specifications.
  • Evaluate parts with repeat problem areas; consult engineering as needed.
  • Mark problem areas; request additional radiographs; route repairs on rework routing cards; recommend necessary repairs.
  • Sign and stamp reports for part acceptance.
  • Review weld maps to confirm all welds are radiographed.
  • Perform mathematical calculations from drawings or blueprints to assess acceptability.
Other Duties
  • Handle hazardous waste and comply with PPE regulations.
  • Meet all production and quality standards per department.
  • Accurately record and document work performed.
  • Provide training and work direction to less experienced personnel.
  • Perform radiographer, darkroom operator, and other department functions as assigned.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Comply with all safety requirements and maintain a clean, safe workspace.
  • Participate in required training, medical monitoring, safety, and health evaluations.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform required overtime as directed by supervision.
  • Carry out other tasks as directed.

  • Image archive devices (CD, DVD, flash, server)
Training
  • On-the-job and classroom or topical sessions.
  • Complete Radiographer Level 2 course and digital method training modules.
  • Complete Radiographer Level 2 Certification and digital method certification.
  • Recertify Level 2 every three years.
  • Complete hazardous waste management training if required.
Qualifications
  • Advanced radiographer skills; at least 1 year performing Radiographer A duties and Level 1 Certification, OR equivalent classroom training and radiographic experience.
  • Proven productivity with satisfactory quality rating, ≤6 unexcused absences in 12 months.
  • Intermediate computer system operation: mouse, keyboard, Windows OS navigation.
  • Ability to understand and document basic computer communication issues; communicate clearly with MIS.
  • Ability to learn new electronic technology methods.
  • Read, interpret, and follow specifications in Technique Cards, Quality Control Manuals, and technical materials.
  • Use pixel value measurement (ROI), statistical process tools, and mid‑level mathematical calculations to verify image quality.
  • Communicate effectively written and verbally.
  • Interpret drawings and blueprints at radiographer film interpreter level.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
  • Physical ability to perform job functions.
  • Perform daily equipment set‑up procedures and quality checks as required by QCM.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform required overtime as directed by supervision.
