Location:

St. Louis Lambert International Airport. Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $180.00 bi-weekly.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Assist journeyman electricians in electrical work installing, constructing, revamping and maintaining electrical lighting systems on the airfield and in the airport buildings.
  • Assist in the replacement of all types of light standards and poles.
  • Assist in the installation of transformers and equipment on poles, in manholes and in trenches.
  • Help lay electrical cable.
  • Help locate electrical lines and installations.
  • Load and unload tools, equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Organize tools and equipment and clean up electric shop and electrical rooms.
  • Perform emergency snow call duties – shovel snow, salt sidewalks, etc.
  • Be able to work indoors and outdoors, in extreme weather conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Data utilization: compile, assemble, copy, record and/or transcribe data and information according to a prescribed scheme or plan.
  • Human interaction: explain, demonstrate, and clarify to others within established policies, procedures and standards; follow specific instructions and respond to simple requests from others.
  • Equipment, machinery, tools and material use: operate, maneuver or adjust equipment, machinery and tools such as trucks, overhead crane, common hand tools, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrow, hand carts and materials required for essential functions.
  • Verbal aptitude: utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as time sheets, regulations and general operating manuals.
  • Mathematical aptitude: perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Functional reasoning: carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form, with some latitude for independent judgment.
  • Situational reasoning: exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in varied duties that may be subject to frequent change.
  • Environmental factors: risk exposure to adverse conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature extremes, noise, machinery vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic agents, violence, disease.
  • Physical requirements:

    regular and sometimes sustained moderately physically demanding work involving climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy objects that may weigh over 100 pounds.
  • Sensory requirements: recognize and identify colors, shapes and sounds for communication.
Other Requirements
  • Must be available to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • A ten year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations for positions is Lambert International Airport.
Qualifications

Two years of experience assisting journeyman electricians, machinists, plumbers, carpenters or related skilled trade workers; or successful completion of a recognized two‑year trades program which includes electrical, machinist, plumbing, carpentry or a related skilled trade from an accredited trade school or junior college; or two years of experience in highway construction, new building construction, water or sewer line construction; or two years of experience and current permanent status as a Utility Worker with the City of St.

Louis; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

License/Certification

Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of filing application and be able to present it upon request. Some positions may require incumbents to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (Class

B) by completion of the working test period.
