Position: Area III (Lane County) Inside Electrician Apprenticeship 2026

Area III (Lane County) Inside Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (J.A.T.C)

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 18 years of age with proof of age by picture .
  • High school graduate or GED Equivalency Certificate.
  • Math requirement: one year of high school algebra or equivalent with a grade of ‘C’ or better.

A valid driver’s license may be required upon employment. Some employers may also require substance abuse testing.

Essential Functions
  • Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring systems and equipment, both high and low voltage.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment used in 24‑hour operations.
  • Installs traffic signal control systems and devices.
  • Installs and maintains motors, coils, transformers, and control equipment up to 12,000 volts.
  • Documents information in preventive maintenance files and monitors maintenance programs.
  • Installs and maintains water pump and booster stations ranging from functional to several hundred horsepower.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs transformers, substations, and related control equipment.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs series and multiple lighting systems on streets, airports, ballparks, wastewater and water treatment facilities, and civic plazas.
  • Draws circuits on one‑line diagrams for controls.
  • Designs functional electric circuitry for electrical systems.
  • Operates earth‑moving, aerial, and pneumatic equipment for installation and repair tasks.
  • Leads crew, assigns work to personnel, and schedules equipment use to ensure timely progress.
  • Provides on‑job training for junior or subordinate crew members.
  • Responds to citizen and customer inquiries or complaints.
  • Acts as a standby electrician for after‑hours emergency calls.
  • Demonstrates continuous improvement of operations, reduction of turnaround times, and cooperative customer service.
Required Knowledge
  • Electrical construction and maintenance, including conduit, cables, switches, and pole line construction.
  • Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions.
  • National Electric Code and relevant city codes.
Required Skills
  • Care and use of hand tools such as hickeys, volt meters, wiggins, Meggars, and VOMs.
  • Locating and adjusting defects in electrical systems and equipment.
  • Operation of earth moving, aerial, and pneumatic equipment.
Required Abilities
  • Distinguish colors in the color spectrum for wire and traffic signal work.
  • Use graphic instructions such as blueprints and schematic drawings.
  • Estimate labor and material costs from blueprints or work plans.
  • Perform mathematical computations.
  • Exercise independent thought and action within specific assignments.
  • Comprehend and infer from written materials.
  • Measure distances accurately.
  • Perform precise arm‑hand movements, e.g., operating an electric hand drill.
  • Lift arms above shoulder level in ceilings, light fixtures, or traffic signals.
  • Work in small, cramped areas such as ceiling crawl spaces and equipment enclosures.
  • Climb ladders or steps to reach work areas.
  • Work at heights greater than ten feet.
  • Remain in a standing position for extended periods.
  • Work in various weather conditions, including outdoor exposure.
  • Move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) over long distances (more than 20 feet).
  • Travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
  • Express ideas on technical problems clearly and concisely orally and in writing in English.
  • Communicate orally in English with customers, clients, or the public.
  • Observe, monitor, or compare data to determine compliance with operating or safety standards.
  • Make decisions and coordinate work based on customer information.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to safety.
