Your role at a glance

The Data Center Technician provides working‑level knowledge, ensuring operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems. The technician maintains processes that maximize customer uptime cost‑effectively, identifies and repairs problems promptly, and meets internal customer demands.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop creative approaches to keep operational costs to a minimum, improve efficiency, and implement new strategies.
  • Manage mechanical systems, including chilled water systems, HVAC (roof‑top units, CRAC/CRAH units, humidification), and related components.
  • Oversee electrical/critical power distribution from utility/Generator switch gear through UPS systems to customer load.
  • Maintain fire life safety systems, including wet and pre‑action sprinkler systems and detection devices.
  • Test performance of electromechanical assemblies and use electronic voltmeters.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical orders to determine processes and sequences.
  • Inspect parts for surface defects and install electrical or electronic components using hand or power tools.
  • Align, fit, or assemble component parts.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems (Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Life Safety, Building Monitoring and Control).
  • Analyze systems to ensure best practices for internal and external customers.
  • Provide feedback to DCO Engineering on effectiveness of standards and processes.
  • Work with contractors and consultants to review quality assurance for all system expansions, corrections, and upgrades.
  • Support the CF Ops Lead Technician in tracking and completing preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Ensure the data center operates at maximum efficiency, recommending new technologies and cost‑reduction measures.
  • Manage systems to avoid unplanned customer‑impacting events.
  • Determine maintenance requirements for mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and maintain regular, predictable attendance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems used in data centers, including electrical distribution, transformers, PLCs, generators, switch gear, UPSs, STS’s, ATS’s, PDUs, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, and pre‑action sprinkler systems.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and building code compliance related to fire life safety.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety best practices: lockout/tag‑out, arc‑flash protection, OSHA and state regulations.
  • Proficiency in data trending/tracking, analysis, and PC‑based integrated critical monitoring systems.
  • Hands‑on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial/industrial systems such as chilled water systems, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, water‑treatment systems, VFDs, pumps, HVAC equipment, humidification, water heaters, BMS/PLC controls, emergency diesel generators, fuel/oil systems, and static UPS systems.
  • Excellent communication skills; proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Ability to coordinate, supervise, and communicate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades.
  • Ability to learn quickly, address issues during normal and after‑hours shifts, and operate tools such as a forklift, hand and machine tools, and electrical tools (multimeter, infrared camera).
  • Comfortable working in high‑stress, fast‑paced environments with shifting priorities; availability for nights, holidays, and some weekends.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

L1:
High‑School Diploma required. Associate’s Degree or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (data center, hospital, semiconductor, or power plant) required. CPR/First Aid, NFPA 70E certified…
