Position: Estimating Specialist I

ABOUT THE JOB

Efficiently and accurately generate takeoffs of project plans, and input necessary data into software programs to create quotes. Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation as needed when completing quotes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assess all costs—material and labor—for potential construction projects.
  • Assist with creating estimates and cost or expenditure statements for use in future project consideration.
  • Consult with Sales and provide detailed scopes of work for competitive bids.
  • Develop multiple estimates for a variety of materials in a typical construction project.
  • Read and understand construction blueprints.
  • Translate blueprints to quote/estimate for project.
  • Know pricing structure of company and use best management practice to win bids.
  • Assist with project work as directed by Department Manager.
  • Comply with all Geneva Pipe and Precast/NWP policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and establish cooperative relationships.
  • Ability to self‑manage.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Understanding of precast process and production capabilities of plants.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • High school, college, certifications, or equivalent.
  • 1 year experience in a construction office environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient understanding of civil engineering and surveying terms and methods.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Close supervision:
The incumbent is assigned duties according to specified procedures and receives detailed instructions. Work is checked frequently.
