Estimator I
The Estimator I prepares portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines under close supervision. Learns and applies estimating techniques, takeoff procedures, and cost control fundamentals while supporting senior estimators on heavy civil construction projects.
Job Responsibilities- Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work with guidance from senior team members
- Prepare basic discipline estimates by calculating takeoffs of assigned scopes of work
- Assist in maintaining the estimating cost database to ensure costs are current
- Support senior estimators in reviewing design options and gathering data on cost and material availability
- Solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers under direction
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and Company requirements
- Other duties or projects, administrative or otherwise, as assigned
- Foundational knowledge of estimating techniques, takeoffs, and cost control concepts
- Developing ability to interpret plans, specifications, and computerized cost data
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn under supervision
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with HCSS Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage assigned tasks with guidance
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience
- 4+ years of estimating or related construction experience
- Sedentary work with extended periods of sitting at a workstation
- Repetitive motion associated with operating a computer and office equipment
- Lifting up to 25 lbs. occasionally
- Occasional jobsite visits with exposure to outdoor conditions and uneven terrain
