Why it MattersThis reporter will help Phoenix residents understand what's happening in their own backyards, getting readers smarter, faster on the news, events and local folkways that matter most to them.
Responsibilities- Co‑author a daily Axios newsletter full of insights and scoops that matter most to Phoenix.
- Cover many aspects of life in Phoenix.
- Experiment with and leverage AI for reporting and newsletter production.
- Write conversationally, in Axios' Smart Brevity style.
- Help build Axios Local and shape how our product evolves.
- Experience covering Phoenix.
- Excellent sources and the desire to create new ones.
- Ability to break news and create conceptual scoops.
- Omnivorous curiosity about your hometown, no matter how long you've lived there.
- Ideas, ideas, ideas.
- Comfort flexing some voice and personality in your writing.
- Proven experience working in a fast‑paced news environment and on deadline.
- The desire to make yourself indispensable to local readers and to Axios Local.
Starting salary is in the range of $60,000–$100,000, dependent on location, work experience, and skills.
