Job Summary /Basic Function

Under the supervision of the Accommodation Specialist, the Note taking Lead facilitates note taking accommodations for students with disabilities in the Disability Services department. The Lead Notetaker will also be assigned to a class as needed, to take notes for students with accommodations for note taking. This includes taking detailed, clear, and accurate lecture notes and other information presented via in-person or virtual academic settings.

Ensure notes are adequate in content, identifying key points and relevant information.

The Note taking Lead will review students’ requests for note takers each semester, coordinate with the ASL Interpreting Specialist regarding any Deaf or Hard of Hearing students who have been approved for note taking accommodations, schedule note takers each semester according to the student’s needs and schedule, and make adjustments as needed. The Lead schedules appointments for note takers in the student database system, documents appointments and related notes, contacts faculty to inquire about volunteer or peer note takers, sends faculty verbiage for volunteers, ensures that student volunteers receive their gift card at the end of the semester, finds substitutes if note takers are unable to attend their assigned class, and may fill in for other note takers as needed, depending on availability.

The Lead works with note takers for any training needed to ensure consistency of service and sends follow‑up emails every other week, or as often as determined, to see how things are going and assist with questions or concerns. The Lead also follows up with students receiving note taking accommodations every other week or as often as determined, assisting with questions or concerns, and communicates with the Accommodation Specialist to discuss or address any questions and/or concerns regarding note taking accommodations.
