Overview
The Law Enforcement Academy at Utah Valley University is seeking Adjunct Instructors to join our team. In this role, you’ll teach Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) curriculum courses and scenarios, helping prepare future officers for success.

Responsibilities- Designs and teaches assigned courses in the field of study.
- Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
- Prepares instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, exams, mock-ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as necessary.
- Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, laboratories, and shops by using appropriate teaching methods.
- Evaluates instruction and learning by means of appropriate testing methods.
- Maintains a student-oriented approach to education.
- Recommends students for advancement and graduation.
- Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
- Coordinates cooperative work experience programs and students as assigned.
- Complies with university policies, procedures, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
- Assists academy director, administrative assistant, and or program coordinator, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program.
- Is thoroughly familiar with the academic freedom and professional responsibility statement and adheres to these policies.
- Maintains desirable and safe classroom conditions.
- A current Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) certification from the Utah POST.
- Be in good standing with a Utah law enforcement agency, with a minimum of two years experience.
- A current Utah POST Instructor Development certificate.
Preferred Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate, bachelors or master’s degree in the subject matter or a closely related area AND one year of teaching or closely related professional experience.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities- Knowledge of subject matter and course content.
- Skill in effective instructional strategies and techniques.
- Effective interpersonal, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students and instruction.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
