Position Announcement
At Utah Valley University, teaching in the Sociology program provides an opportunity to inspire and support students as they explore complex social systems, human behavior, and societal change. This role allows instructors to design and deliver engaging courses that foster critical thinking, inclusivity, and academic growth while aligning with program and institutional goals. Instructors contribute directly to student success by mentoring, guiding, and connecting learners to campus resources, helping them achieve their academic and personal goals.

Summary of Responsibilities
* Design and teach assigned Sociology courses in alignment with program and institutional goals.
* Plan, prepare, and follow approved course outlines that include measurable learning objectives.
* Develop and maintain instructional materials such as syllabi, assignments, exams, and supplemental resources.
* Instruct, manage, and engage students in classroom and/or online settings using effective and inclusive teaching methods.
* Evaluate student learning through appropriate testing, assignments, and other assessments.
* Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and accountability; submit required reports in a timely manner.
* Recommend students for advancement and graduation as appropriate.
* Support student success by providing guidance, mentorship, and referrals to campus resources as needed.
* Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to support the effectiveness of the Sociology program.
* Participate in department and university committees and attend required meetings.
* Adhere to academic freedom and professional responsibility policies.
* Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in Sociology or a closely related area and two years of teaching or closely related professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in Sociology, or a closely related area, AND one year of teaching or closely related experience.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
* Strong understanding of Sociology subject matter, theories, and course content, including contemporary social issues and research methods.
* Skilled in applying effective teaching strategies and techniques to engage and support diverse learners in classroom or online settings.
* Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships, solve problems, and make informed decisions in an academic environment.
* Ability to motivate, guide, and evaluate students, while fostering an inclusive and respectful learning environment.
* Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex sociological concepts clearly to students.
