Joining Utah Valley University as an Adjunct Instructor/Industry Professional - Theatre offers an opportunity to directly shape student learning while contributing to a vibrant, collaborative academic community. In this role, you'll design meaningful instructional materials, lead engaging classroom and lab experiences, and apply effective teaching methods that support diverse learners. Working closely with full-time faculty, you'll help ensure that each course meets established academic and department standards while maintaining a strong, student-centered approach.

As an adjunct, you'll also have the chance to participate in service-learning initiatives, support program development, and contribute to curriculum discussions that strengthen UVU's arts programs. This position encourages continuous professional growth through ongoing learning, industry engagement, and participation in relevant professional activities. It's an ideal role for educators and practitioners who are passionate about their discipline and eager to make a real impact on students, the university, and the broader arts community.

Summary of Responsibilities

* Prepare instructional materials such as course outlines, syllabi, assignments, and exams.

* Instruct, manage, and supervise students in classrooms, studios, and/or computer labs using effective and appropriate teaching methods.

* Evaluate student learning through appropriate testing and assessment methods, in consultation with full-time faculty.

* Collaborate with an assigned full-time faculty member to ensure adherence to academic and department standards, as well as course and program outcomes.

* Maintain a student-centered approach to teaching, supporting academic success and engagement.

* Coordinate engaged-learning and/or service-learning work experiences for students, as assigned.

* Assist counselors, department chairs, program coordinators, faculty, and staff in supporting and maintaining an effective academic program.

* Serve on curriculum committees and attend department or school meetings as assigned.

* Maintain professional currency by reading relevant publications, researching current industry practices, pursuing required certifications or degrees, attending professional development courses, and staying informed on emerging trends and techniques in the field.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

* Bachelor's degree in the relevant subject area or a closely related field.

* One to three years of professional experience in the discipline or area of specialization.

* Demonstrated expertise in the subject matter to be taught.

* Evidence of effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students and colleagues.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

* Knowledge of subject matter and course content relevant to the classes being taught.

* Knowledge of effective instructional strategies, teaching techniques, and learning methodologies.

* Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation practices.

* Knowledge of effective human relations and professional communication techniques.

* Skill in applying instructional principles to a variety of classroom and lab conditions.

* Skill in creating an engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
