Position Overview

Welcome to the SLCC Community! The Foundational Math adjunct faculty member will work with full-time faculty, under general supervision of the Associate Dean, in program and class-related duties such as classroom (including online) instruction, content design and delivery, and student evaluation using sound developmental mathematics pedagogies.

Pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.

Position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.

    Essential Duties
    • Meets the SLCC Math Department's protocols and standards in teaching
    • Provides students and the Math Department with a course syllabus
    • Provides ADA accommodations as requested
    • Maintains a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment
    • Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance
    • Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments
    • Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards
    • Informs students of progress by keeping up-to-date grades in the college LMS
    • Communicates collectively and/or individually with students regarding course management
    • Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 business days)
    • Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades
    • Follows Math Department and College guidelines to assign and submits grades by published deadlines
    • Submits graded final exams to the Math Department at the end of the semester
    • Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines
    • Prepares and submits incident reports as needed to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy
    • Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization
    • Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators
    • Maintains professional and collegial behavior
    • Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure
    • Completes all required employee training
    • Continues to improve teaching and student learning through departmental professional development
    • Ensures student learning through maintaining SLCC's Math Department standards of teaching.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College
    • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities
    Additional Conditions

    All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for online-only courses.

    You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/ Instructor on a contract-to-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment. Your employment may be terminated At Will at any time.

    You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics or Math Education is required if not master's has been awarded.

    Successful completion of mathematics coursework through calculus series required.

    Three years teaching experience in junior high school or high school (grades 7-12) or college. Master's degree in mathematics or math education.

    Experience teaching adults in a higher education environment.

    Experience teaching in a competency-based model.
