Job SummaryThe Elementary Social Studies Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing professional learning experiences and resources for Granite School District teachers in curriculum, instructional strategies, differentiation, and assessment for social studies content in multiple modalities. The position focuses on promoting the implementation of the Utah Core Standards for social studies with research‑based practices using district‑adopted tools. The Specialist will provide sustained support to Granite District teachers through a continuum of content coaching and professional learning opportunities.
EssentialFunctions
- Professional Learning & Coaching
- Provide professional learning experiences in curriculum, instructional strategies, differentiation, and assessment for social studies content in multiple modalities based on K‑5 core standards.
- Support teachers and school leaders through requested content coaching.
- Maintain professional competence and growth through ongoing training and learning provided by the school district, state, and other self‑selected professional learning activities.
- Collaborate with content area specialists with the integration of curriculum, skills, and practice standards.
- Develop social studies curriculum materials which model content integration.
- Demonstrate/model effective social studies teaching strategies especially as it relates to content integration.
- Identify and maintain an inventory of resources which support quality social studies instruction.
- Embed cross‑curricular connections within elementary social studies curriculum maps to support literacy standards.
- District & Community Collaboration
- Partner with other district departments, USBE, and other external organizations to support shared goals and initiatives.
- Participate in committees and task forces.

Skill in utilizing technology for basic tasks as well as integrating technology, including AI literacy skills, to support social studies teaching, learning, and instructional decision‑making. - Instructional Design

Knowledge of adult learning theory and strategies; skill in implementing proficiency‑based learning. - Self‑Management

Ability to work independently with little direct supervision as well as part of a team; accountable, responsible, self‑motivated; displays effective multi‑tasking and time management skills. - Classroom & Workshop Management

Establishes and maintains a positive learning environment and handles management issues in a calm manner.
- Requires one of the following:
- A current Professional Educator License issued by the USBE with at least one of the following:
- Professional Secondary License Area of Concentration and at least one of the following professional endorsements:
Geography, History, or Social Studies Composite. - Professional Elementary License Area of Concentration.
- Professional Secondary License Area of Concentration and at least one of the following professional endorsements:
