General Information:
The Assistant Principal of the Utah County Academy of Sciences (UCAS) plays a vital role in supporting a successful educational program. Under the direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal helps create and maintain a safe, positive, and academically rigorous learning environment. The position provides instructional leadership, supports school operations, promotes student success, and advances the mission and vision of UCAS.
The Assistant Principal will be evaluated by the Principal based on performance, fulfillment of assigned responsibilities, and contributions to student achievement and school improvement.
Position Title: Assistant Principal
Reports to: Principal
Job Goal: To support the Principal in legally, effectively, honestly, and efficiently operating UCAS as a top performing Early College High School. The Assistant Principal's major goals are:
- Manage day-to-day activities at school.
- Monitor student behavior and progress.
- Train, encourage, and mentor teachers and other staff.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Assist with the supervision of teachers, counselors, and other support staff, as needed.
- Foster positive relationships with parents and students.
- Work actively with teachers to maintain high curriculum standards.
- Explain or answer procedural questions.
- Visit classrooms and observe teaching methods.
- Maintain a positive and safe learning environment for teachers and students.
- Serve as a member of the school's leadership team and assist in strategic planning and decision-making.
- Valid Utah Professional Administrative/Supervisory License or eligibility to obtain one.
- Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
- Successful teaching experience.
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal.
- Ability to work with and disaggregate data.
- Administrative leadership experience in a secondary school setting.
- Experience working in an early college or dual-enrollment environment.
Salary: Varies with experience and education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Confer with parents and staff to discuss educational activities, policies, and student behavioral or learning issues.
- Provide information to students and their parents regarding academic, vocational, and/or behavioral issues.
- Adhere to and enforce safe school policies.
- Analyze student achievement data to support school improvement efforts.
- Collaborate with teachers to improve instructional practices.
- Support implementation of curriculum and assessment programs.
- Participate in school improvement planning and accreditation activities.
- Assist with student attendance, behavior interventions, restorative practices, and disciplinary processes in accordance with school policy.
- Monitor and support student academic performance and intervention efforts.
- Manage various school programs as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
