Position: Work Study - Video Captioning Assistant (Spring, Summer, Fall 2026)

The Video Captioning Assistant will play a crucial role in ensuring that educational videos are accessible to Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students. This work‑study position involves creating accurate captions for videos used in academic settings. The assistant will collaborate with the Assistive Technology Coordinator and EIT Accessibility Manager to enhance the learning experience for all.

This is a part‑time work‑study position that offers 15 (minimum)-20 hours (maximum) of work per week. Hours may vary based on the academic calendar and student availability.

Responsibilities
  • Captioning Services:
    • Create high‑quality captions for videos, including lectures, presentations, and instructional materials.
    • Ensure captions are accurate, synchronized, and meet accessibility standards.
    • Collaborate with Assistive Technology Coordinator and EIT Accessibility Manager to understand specific content and context for effective captioning.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Familiarize yourself with captioning software and tools.
    • Troubleshoot any technical issues related to captioning.
  • Communication:
    • Maintain clear communication with team members.
    • Address any captioning‑related inquiries promptly.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Review and edit captions as needed to improve accuracy and readability.
    • Verify that captions align with the content and convey the intended message.
  • Collaboration:
    • Attend relevant meetings or training sessions related to accessibility and captioning.
  • Qualifications
    • Must be a current UVU Student and have been awarded Work‑Study through UVU Financial Aid.
    • Strong attention to detail and excellent written communication skills.
    • Familiarity with video captioning tools (training can be provided).
    • Sensitivity to the needs of Deaf and Hard‑of‑Hearing individuals.
