The Supplemental Instruction and Programs Coordinator plays a key role in advancing student success at Utah Valley University by developing, coordinating, and assessing academic support programs that help students persist, achieve their educational goals, and thrive in challenging courses. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and student leaders, this position creates meaningful learning opportunities through supplemental instruction, structured learning assistance, academic recovery initiatives, workshops, and other innovative support programs that enhance the student experience beyond traditional tutoring services.
This position offers the opportunity to make a measurable impact on student achievement while contributing to a university culture centered on access, engagement, and academic excellence. The coordinator provides leadership in program development and daily operations, mentors student employees, and helps shape evidence-based strategies that strengthen learning outcomes and support the success of a broad student population.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Assists with the planning, scheduling, and day-to-day management of supplemental programs. This includes recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, observing, evaluating, and mentoring student employees; managing the scheduling and monitoring of supplemental programs; collaborating with students, faculty, and staff from various departments across the university; and other duties as assigned.
- Assists in the design and development of supplemental programs and employee training. This includes analyzing current programs and discussing their effectiveness with the directors, including suggestions for improvement, researching and creating proposals for new programs better suited to meet student needs; overseeing the student employee training program, including preparing and giving trainings, creating and managing an online Canvas training course, and helping maintain the department's College Reading and Learning Association CRLA certification.
- Assists in program assessment to evaluate effectiveness and ensure alignment with UVU's vision and goals. Responsible for gathering data, compiling information, and preparing regular and semester reports to inform strategic planning, assessment data, and program accreditation.
- Contribute to the efforts to increase awareness of supplemental programs through marketing, event planning, and participation.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a directly related field of study and at least 1 year of learning center experience or a combination of education and experience totaling 5 years.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in a directly related field of study and at least 1 year of learning center work or a combination of education and experience totaling 7 years.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge of and experience with student support services and programs, including tutoring, supplemental instruction, structured learning assistance, academic workshops, etc.
- Knowledge of best practices in student success programs, including learning theories, pedagogy, and instructional design.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to various student experiences in academic environments.
- Skilled in coordinating and collaborating on promotional events and marketing.
- Skilled in data collection and management, research, analysis, and development to identify program needs, utilize available resources, and create positive program results.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to identify program needs and utilize available resources.
- Ability to be self-directed and complete tasks without supervision.
- Ability to engage with employees and build community.
