The Social and Behavioral Science Department at Utah Valley University is currently seeking potential candidates for a faculty lecturer position in Anthropology to begin in the 2026–2027 academic year. This is a non-tenure track position and will include teaching five courses per fall and spring semester; summer teaching may also be available for additional pay. We prefer a sociocultural anthropologist with a regional focus on the South Pacific and an emphasis on community engagement.
Responsibilities- Design, prepare, and teach courses and deliver content using meaningful and engaging methods with measurable course objectives.
- Expected to utilize student-focused and evidence-based pedagogy for engaged learning as well as provide evaluation of learning through written and performance-based assessments.
- Expected to hold regular office hours and maintain a student-oriented approach to education.
- Attend all department and program faculty meetings.
- Graduation with a master’s or doctoral degree in anthropology or a closely related field.
- Demonstration of successful teaching at the college or university level is required.
- Doctoral degree or ABD in sociocultural anthropology or primary training in anthropology within an interdisciplinary department.
- Regional expertise in the South Pacific.
- Demonstrated commitment to community engagement.
- Ability to design and deliver curriculum for courses including Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, Anthropological Theory, Ethnographic Methods, Ethnomusicology, Food and Culture, Environmental Anthropology and Peoples and Cultures of the Pacific.
- Knowledge required to design, prepare, and deliver course content using meaningful and engaging methods with measurable course objectives.
- Excellence in teaching as demonstrated through effective instructional strategies and techniques in the classroom. Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
- Ability to communicate effectively and consistently with students both orally and electronically.
- Ability to support the success of students from all backgrounds and levels of preparation.
- Ability to design and deliver curriculum for courses including Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, Anthropological Theory, Ethnographic Methods, Ethnomusicology, Food and Culture, Environmental Anthropology and Peoples and Cultures of the Pacific.
