The Criminal Justice Department at Utah Valley University (UVU) offers an exciting opportunity for a one year temporary lecturer faculty member to join a growing, student-centered, and community-engaged program in one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. Summary Of Responsibilities
  • Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of teaching that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms by the following methods: demonstration, discussion, visual aids, lectures, field trips, individualized instruction, on-line instruction, and other appropriate instructional methods.
  • Prepares instructional materials (i.e. exams, visual aids, course outlines, syllabi, and instruction sheets) as necessary. Evaluates instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical, and performance tests.
  • Establishes and maintains office hours and assists department chair, faculty, department staff, and advisers in maintaining an effective program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in Criminal Justice field required.
  • Minimum three years in industry experience in Criminal Justice related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a PhD degree or equivalent in Criminal Justice or a Master's Degree with five years of teaching in Criminal Justice in higher education.
  • Experience teaching in higher education or program development.
  • Minimum six years industry experience in Criminal Justice related field.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Knowledge
  • Teaching experience or expertise in at least three of the following areas is desirable:
    Corrections, Juvenile Justice, Criminal Law, and research methods.
  • Knowledge of subject matter, trends, and course content pertinent to Criminal Justice.
  • Knowledge of online and classroom teaching environments, such as Canvas or other course management systems.

  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Curriculum development skills.
  • Soft skills in maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Specific interest in teaching introductory courses, potentially involving collaboration with Concurrent Enrollment instructors.
  • Teaching pedagogy in a variety of delivery formats

  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Ability to plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow an approved curriculum.
  • Ability to assess student work and maintain and submit accurate and current plans, reports, and records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance.
