Under general supervision of the Program Coordinator, the faculty member will teach various Surgical Technology evening/day classes, including such courses as Beginning Surgical Theory, Advanced Surgical Theory, Surgical Procedures, Surgical Procedures, and Surgical Practicum.

1) In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester-by-semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.

2) Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within 30 days of hire.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach classes in the Surgical Technology program.
  • Participate in program activities to maintain accreditation standards.
  • Keep accurate classroom records, detailed course outlines, and syllabi.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours, as appropriate.
  • Meet college and department deadlines and evaluate student work in a timely manner, including submitting grades on time.
  • Demonstrate professional development and contributions in the Surgical Technology discipline.
  • Participate in the use of instructional technology, including the use of computers and multimedia in lectures, laboratories, and distant learning environments.
  • Attend New Faculty Orientation sessions.
  • Complete all required training.
  • Coordinate student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrate and support professional commitment to division, school, and college mission and values.
  • A commitment to the mission and values of the community college.
  • Demonstrate and support professional commitment to the Department, Division and College.
  • The willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth.
  • Technologically literate and innovative.
  • Accept other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Candidate should be National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Certified.
  • Breadth of knowledge and experience in the field of Surgical Technology.
  • In the last five years, two or more years of professional experience in the areas related to clinical practice and teaching.
  • Demonstrated experience in knowledge of curriculum design and education philosophy that emphasizes student learning in the design, delivery and evaluation of courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team setting.
  • Clinical experience as a practicing surgical technologist.
  • Documented expertise in areas of teaching responsibility.
  • A breadth of knowledge and experience in the field of Surgical Technology.
  • Depth of understanding of the Surgical Technology field through professional development and can contribute to the current knowledge of the discipline.
  • Maintain creditable academic degrees and National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Certification.
  • Demonstrated strength in teaching community college courses either as an adjunct or full-time faculty.
  • The understanding of various learning styles and ability to employ related teaching strategies, including distant learning, computers and multimedia.
  • Knowledge of the development, implementation and evaluation of fieldwork education.
  • Knowledge and experience in promoting quality education in laboratory and fieldwork experiences and ensuring student and/or consumer safety.
  • Knowledge of the development of new courses and the upgrading of current courses and programs.
  • Knowledge of instructional technology appropriately both in the classroom and as a tool for distance learning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
  • All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for online only courses.

    You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/ Instructor on a contract-to-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment.

    Your employment may be terminated At Will at any time.

    You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.

    Additional Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Teaching experience in a higher education institution (adjunct or full-time).
  • Teaching experience in a clinical and/or didactic setting.
