Adjunct Instructor in Exercise Science

- Design and teach Exercise Science courses that support student learning in areas such as human performance, kinesiology, health, and fitness.
- Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study with measurable learning objectives aligned to Exercise Science curriculum standards.
- Develop instructional materials, including syllabi, lectures, labs, assessments, case studies, and visual aids relevant to Exercise Science concepts.
- Evaluate student performance using appropriate methods such as exams, practical demonstrations, lab work, and applied projects.
- Maintain a student-centered approach that promotes engagement, critical thinking, and real-world application in health and exercise settings.
- Assess student readiness and recommend progression, certification preparation, or graduation as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, performance, participation, and outcomes.
- Coordinate experiential learning opportunities such as internships, practicums, or cooperative work experiences in Exercise Science or related fields.
- Collaborate with faculty, program leadership, and student support services to ensure program effectiveness and student success.
- Stay current in Exercise Science by engaging with professional research, industry trends, certifications, and continuing education opportunities.
Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or Physical Education, plus two years of teaching or closely related experience.
Knowledge / Skills / AbilitiesKnowledge
- Extensive knowledge of Exercise Science principles, including human anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and health-related fitness.
- Knowledge of instructional strategies, teaching methodologies, and assessment techniques applicable to Exercise Science education.
- Knowledge of student engagement, motivation, and performance evaluation in both classroom and applied settings.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous improvement practices within Exercise Science programs.
- Knowledge of experiential learning opportunities such as internships, practicums, or clinical/work-based experiences (as applicable).
- Understanding of advising, coaching, and student development practices in the health and wellness fields.
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively teach, mentor, and collaborate with students and colleagues.
- Public speaking and presentation skills for delivering lectures and leading discussions or demonstrations.
- Ability to design and implement effective lesson plans, labs, and applied learning experiences.
- Skill in evaluating student learning through written, practical, and performance-based assessments.
- Organizational and record-keeping skills to maintain accurate student and program documentation.
