First-Generation Student Success Center Peer Mentor
The First-Generation Student Success Center (FGSSC) is hiring for First-Gen Peer Mentors who will support, plan, and participate in FGSSC programming, especially First-Gen Crew, to support first-gen students at UVU and the mission of the Center. FGSSC defines first-gen students as: neither parent(s)/guardian(s) graduated with a bachelor's degree from within the U.S. First-Gen Peer Mentors will work under the supervision of the FGSSC Coordinator(s) and Director.
Summaryof Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, and coordinates activities for FGSSC First-Gen Crew program with the Coordinators and Director
- Supports and plans additional FGSSC programming for first-gen students at UVU
- Perform a range of staff and/or operational support activities, including collaborating with other mentors and FGSSC staff to provide program support and maintaining confidential documents and files.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
- Must be a current UVU student.
- Must have a minimum current and cumulative GPA of 2.7
- Must have completed 20 credits or more at UVU
- Must be familiar with FGSSC programming and the first-gen college student experience
- Interest in the well-being of first-gen student peers
- Status of a first-generation college student
- Involvement with FGSSC programming
Knowledge of:
- First-gen student experiences
- Current mentoring and coaching strategies for higher ed. students.
- A variety of computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, and Adobe Design Suite.
- On-campus resources
Skills in:
- Organizational, verbal, and written communication.
- Interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, and public relations skills sufficient to work with and relate to a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
Abilities to:
- Work in an office environment with minimum supervision.
- Work with attention to detail, maturity, professional demeanor, tact, diplomacy, and a sense of humor.
- Prioritize and change priorities as needs arise.
