Job Summary
Instructional Paraprofessional provides support to the instructional program within an assigned classroom, specifically assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students, implementing instruction plans, monitoring behavior during non‑classroom time, and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.
Hourly rate: Untrained – Lane 5 $ 15.61 / Trained – Lane 6 $ 16.62 (employee may complete in‑district training to qualify for lane
6).
Hours a day: 5.8

- Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives and IEP goals.
- Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g., medication, tube feeding, colostomy bags) to meet students’ immediate health care needs.
- Administers tests, homework, make‑up work, etc. to support teachers in the classroom.
- Assists data collection under the direction of the assigned teacher to monitor student progress.
- Assists students with self‑care activities (e.g., toileting, washing, changing diapers, eating, dressing, grooming) to maintain personal hygiene.
- Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments (e.g., reading stories, listening to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforcing English lessons, providing spelling practice, facilitating activities, computer learning programs) to practice and/or reinforce learning concepts and assist students in reaching academic goals and grade‑level standards.
- Attends job‑specific trainings and meetings (e.g., first aid, behavior management) to acquire and/or convey information relative to job functions.
- Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to assist in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP and/or 504 objectives.
- Demonstrates appropriate role modeling (e.g., conversation, manners, emotional support, listening skills, friendly and engaging attitudes) to guide students in developing appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
- Implements, under the supervision of the assigned teacher, behavioral plans identified in student IEPs to present and/or reinforce learning concepts.
- Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records and classroom equipment, work area, etc. to ensure availability of items, provide written reference, and/or meet mandated requirements.
- Monitors students during assigned periods in a variety of school environments (e.g., rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Performs a variety of clerical duties (e.g., screening phone calls, distributing materials, maintaining inventories, processing documents) to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Provides, under the supervision of the assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g., academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills) to reinforce instructional objectives, implement IEP and/or 504 plans, and ensure student success in school.
- Reports observations and incidents related to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions) to communicate information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
- Supervises and escorts children to/from classes to provide a safe and optimal learning environment for students.
- Age 16 or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must complete mandatory employee training within the first 3 months of employment.
