Utah Valley University invites dedicated and knowledgeable professionals to join our academic community as an Adjunct Instructor in Chemistry. In this role you will contribute to a student‑centered learning environment by designing and delivering engaging, outcomes‑driven courses aligned with current industry and academic standards. You will apply your expertise in classrooms and laboratories, guiding students in foundational and advanced concepts while fostering academic success.

As an adjunct faculty member, you will maintain academic excellence by preparing instructional materials, evaluating student learning, and supporting program goals through collaboration with faculty and staff. UVU encourages continuous professional development, research, industry engagement, and ongoing education.

• Design and teach courses in the field of study.
• Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each class.
• Prepare instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, exams, mock‑ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as needed.
• Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms, laboratories, and shops using effective teaching methods.
• Evaluate instruction and learning through appropriate testing methods.
• Maintain a student‑oriented approach to education.
• Recommend students for advancement and graduation.
• Maintain and submit accurate reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow‑up.
• Coordinate cooperative work‑experience programs and students as assigned.
• Assist counselors, department chairperson or program coordinator, faculty, and staff in maintaining an effective program.
• Serve on committees and attend faculty and other meetings as assigned.
• Improve professionally and maintain currency in the courses taught by doing the following:
  • Reading and utilizing materials found in trade, technical, and professional publications.
  • Surveying and researching industrial and business establishments.
  • Obtaining and maintaining certification and degrees as required.
  • Attending professional and specialty courses.
  • Keeping abreast of new development trends and techniques.
  • Being familiar with the academic freedom and professional responsibility statement and adhering to its policies.
  • Maintaining desirable and safe laboratory, shop, and classroom conditions.

• Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field and at least two years of teaching or closely related professional experience.
• Preferred:
  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field and at least one year of teaching or closely related professional experience to teach a lecture course.

• Knowledge of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
• Knowledge of course content in Chemistry and Biochemistry.
• Knowledge of public speaking and report writing.
• Knowledge of curriculum development.
• Knowledge of program development and evaluation.
• Knowledge of effective human relations skills and communication techniques.
• Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
• Ability to work effectively with people.
• Ability to apply general principles to specific conditions.
